Any 180-day window can hold 90 days across the 29 Schengen states. Pomelo looks back 180 days from today, counts every day you were in any of them, entry and exit days included, and shows what is left and the day you would need to leave.
Counts from the day you arrived, arrival day as day one, against the limit for that country. Limits for 30+ countries come built in, each with the date it was last checked, and you can change any of them.
Days in one country inside a window: the calendar year, a rolling number of days, or any 12 months. Pick the limit, and an alert can tap you at 80 % and again at 100 %.
Any part of a day: a travel day counts for both countries. Schengen and most visas count this way, and it is the default. Where I sleep: one country per night, the way the UK counts. Change it any time and every number updates.

iOS tells Pomelo when you have stayed somewhere for a while or moved a long way. Pomelo turns that spot into a country on the phone itself, using border maps built into the app, and counts the day.
It also checks when you open the app and when the widget refreshes. No network, no lookup service.
No. It makes a few checks a day, when iOS says you have stopped somewhere or moved a long way. It never runs continuous GPS.
The one exception is Check now, which asks for your location once, when you tap it.
A phone that was off, or location set to only while using the app, can leave a gap. Open the Timeline and tap the day to set its country, or add a stay with a country and a date range to fill several days at once.
Every day shows how it was counted, so you can see what Pomelo noticed and what you added.
By default, yes. A day you spend in two countries counts for both, which is how Schengen and most visas count.
